The two tapes every beginner needs
- Cloth stick tape — goes on your blade and the knob (top) of your stick. Gives you grip and puck feel. Start with white or black — your choice.
- Clear shin tape — wraps around your shin guards over your socks to hold them in place. Get a roll of clear tape.
That's genuinely all you need to start. A tin of stick wax is a nice third item once you're taping regularly, because it makes a tape job last longer.

Do I really need two kinds of tape?
